About Me

Lindsay Kiriakos was born in Montreal, Canada - although life soon took him to Los Angeles, California at the age of five. After earning not one but two degrees during his four years at Stanford University, he soon attended medical school at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania - an organization that itself dates all the way back to 1740.

Kiriakos had always dreamed of being a psychiatrist from an early age. This was in large part inspired by both his father and his older sister, both of whom are active in the field. That's why, after graduation, he had his Psychiatry Residency at the equally impressive University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Semel Neuropsychiatric Institute.

Lindsay Kiriakos: The Journey So Far

Lindsay Kiriakos earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. During that same period, he also earned the graduate award for "Excellence in Psychiatry" - something that would absolutely serve as a good omen for what was to come.

He then completed his residency in "Adult Psychiatry" at the UCLA Semel Neuropsychiatric Institute. Here, he was the Chief Resident in the Interpersonal Psychotherapy Clinic. He quickly rose through the ranks to make a name for himself - a theme that would recur time and again throughout his story.

Another common thread throughout his story is his passion for giving back to those around him. He was a clinical instructor at the UCLA Anxiety Disorders Clinic, for example - something that allowed him to work closely with patients he cared about to help address some of the issues they were experiencing. Throughout his education he worked diligently to get certified in "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" by the esteemed Aaron Beck, MD - the founder of that very idea. This allowed him to better serve those in need, allowing him to continue to work hard and make the lives of those around him.

The career achievement that he's the most proud of involves the treatment of over 2,000 patients with various anxiety disorders, as well as doing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with an additional 1,000 people. He's also dedicated himself to being a resource for information that people can benefit from, having set up psycho educational websites like AnxietyMD.com for that reason.

Working Towards a Brighter Future

Through it all, one of the major things that Kiriakos believes is that we're never "done" learning. Our education is always ongoing - regardless of what your job is. His just happens to require a more proactive approach than most.

Anybody could rest on the laurels of his initial education, but that was never satisfactory for Kiriakos. He was also a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He was elected as a representative of the Southern California Psychiatric Society. He was awarded a fellowship to the U.S. Psychiatry and Mental Health Congress. The list goes on and on.

This is all important because psychiatry itself is an ongoing effort - giving individuals the opportunity to make major changes in their life is something that will always take time. What you're trying to do is help someone address the precise issues that they're experiencing, all in a way that contributes to positive behavioral or mental health changes moving forward. For Dr. Kiriakos, his ongoing commitment to furthering his education - and thus, improving his abilities - goes a long way towards accomplishing precisely that.

He's also a published author, having written a book titled "Panic Disorder: How to Fight Back and Win." Panic disorders are a specific type of anxiety disorder characterized by both sudden and repeated episodes of fear that are themselves accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath and other symptoms. It's estimated that this condition impacts roughly 2.7% of adults in the United States every single year - something that has no doubt been exacerbated thanks to the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, approximately 4.7% of adults will go through a panic disorder at some point in their lives and for Lindsay Kiriakos, drawing attention to this was important.

It's also part of the reason why he also authored the interactive "Choose Your Own Adventure Game" titled "Anxiety Quest," and the psychoeducational website SocialAnxiety.com as ways to help educate people as to exactly what is happening so that they can put themselves in the best position to do something positive about it.

Today, Lindsay Kiriakos proudly works as a psychiatrist with a private practice based out of his native Los Angeles. He's been a licensed physician for more than two decades as of June, 2022. He specializes in treating adults - particularly males - with a wide range of anxiety disorders. He's passionate about the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a treatment that has long been proven to assist with issues like depression, anxiety, eating disorders, mental illness and more.

When he's not working hard at work, Lindsay Kiriakos enjoys relaxing with his wife and children, playing chess, and reading about history. He fosters and rescues dogs via the Animal Advocates Alliance in his area, as well as in conjunction with Remember Me Rescue. He's also a member of the Medical Reserve Corp of Los Angeles as a Disaster healthcare Volunteer.
